Joey Tempest about "Le Baron Boys" demos
Joey Tempest was the special guest on the episode n. 169 of "Behind The Vinyl", a podcast by Rocksverige.se (https://open.spotify.com/episode/2hx7bksKM508ucSWxOtzqS)
Here is what he answered when asked about "Le Baron Boys" demos that Europe recorded in the early 90's.
-----
Rocksverige.se: "In the future, would a thing like the famous "Le Baron Boys" demos... would you ever consider releasing something like that?
Joey: "Fans have asked us for many years! The problem I have with those... they're a bit unfinished lyric wise.
Also, there are no original master tapes, so we can't mix it. The only thing... we can't find that now...
We pretty much find everything, but I don't know how we recorded it. Possibly on an 8-track in San Francisco, and then we mixed it down and where the original tapes... I don't have a clue!
So the problem would be more of a quality issue, 'cause they're already out.
I don't know how much we can remaster those, but there's some lyric lines that are not finished because sometimes I leave that. Those were not the album, it was demos. So sometimes I leave a bit, 10% of the lyrics. I fix that in the studio.
So those are the two reasons mainly. Otherwise there's some good stuff there!
It was a creative period in San Francisco... living there... Russian Hill, I remember that. That was crazy days there and doing demos.
We had an American manager, Herbie Herbert. "Nightmare Management"... Journey's Management... It was actually called "Nightmare Management"!
Yes, we were in California quite a lot... '89, '90, '91. Practically we moved there for a bit, Los Angeles or San Francisco.
That was good in a way and also bad because I think you get a bit coloured from where you are in the world.
And in LA it's the certain sound on the radio, it's certain people you hang out with... You don't wanna get steered away too much from your roots. And that can happen if you stay there too long. In my view."
