Class 483s on the Isle of Wight and the 'Pompey Vectis Explorer' special, 12/04/08.
Another standard definition video from the archives. This time a trip to the Isle of Wight to see the 1938 Tube stock, also known as the class 483s.
On the way to Portsmouth & Southsea to board the Hovercraft over to Ryde, the opportunity was taken to see 47 773 passing Fratton with Vintage Trains' 1Z57 Birmingham Moor Street to Portsmouth Harbour 'Pompey Vectis Explorer' tour.
Over on the Isle of Wight, 483 004 and 483 009 were in service. Locations include Ryde Esplanade, Shanklin, Smallbrook Junction and Ryde St Johns Road. An AP1-88 Hovercraft is then seen arriving at Ryde ready to take us back to Southsea Hoverport.
To finish, we catch 37 248 passing through Portsmouth & Southsea en route to Portsmouth Harbour with the tour empties from Fratton. Then 47 773 passes through with the 1Z58 return to Birmingham.
Fourteen years later, the 483s and the AP1-88 Hovercrafts are gone. 47 773 remains in use with Vintage Trains and 37 248 is preserved at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.
