"Yes I know that I've been recording music for a long time. Then I had a long break in between because of drugs and alcohol. And then to be able to stand up, get up, get dusted off and be given another chance at life first. And then after you get the second chance at life and then you put your act together and try to start recording again. Then after that the first thing you put out is a No. 1 record, it's just incredible."
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Charlie Wilson/Recording artist, on how life now differs from Gap Band days:
"It's bittersweet and now it's sweet-sweet. Because I can wake up, I know my surroundings. I don't have to guess and look around and say 'Where the hell am I at?' and things like that. I don't have to worry about 'Did I get all of my money at last night's show?' Or 'Who has got my Benz? Who has got the Ferrari? Who has got -- where the hell are my cars?' I don't have to.They say, 'You gave those keys to that dude last night!' 'What dude?!' So it's like, or somebody was just in my house and just lifted the keys off the kitchen ring and just took off with one of them. I don't have that type of behavior in my life. Because I don't hang out with anybody except for my wife. And that's it. And that's it, that's it."
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Charlie Wilson/Recording artist, on his wife Mahin:
"Then my lovely wife Mahin who stands by my side. She just -- she has been there every step of the way for me, from the time I got myself sober till today. Every single day, we walk together. And everything -- we go everywhere together except for the public bathroom. Ha ha!"

"It's a safe haven for me when I come off the road. It's very quiet up there on my farm. It's away from everybody. There's like not neighbors-neighbors. They are, acres away. But not like that they can come and knock or ring my doorbell. They can ring the gate. They can buzz the gate. That don't mean that they getting in. When somebody's knocking at your door and they see movement, that's a little too close. But I really have a lot of -- that's my safe haven. When I come home from the road. It's really comfortable and quiet. The only thing I can hear is the animals basically."
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Charlie Wilson/Recording artist, on the animals he keeps on his land:
"I have 20 acres. I have alpacas, llamas and cows and chickens, and dogs and cats and everybody, and lamb."

STORYLINE
CHARLIE WILSON'S SURPRISINGLY QUIET HOME LIFE
Charlie Wilson likes it quiet.
The 60-year-old R&B singer and songwriter shot to fame in the late 1970s as lead vocalist for the Gap Band and the upbeat funk of "Outstanding" and "You Dropped A Bomb On Me." He's released a series of successful solo albums in the past decade -- but only after recovering from drug and alcohol abuse.
Wilson met his wife Mahin in rehab.
