BYU offers "crash course" in self-driving car technology
A BYU electrical engineering professor has found an innovative and inexpensive way to teach students how to program self-driving cars. Instead of building a full-scale autonomous vehicle, DJ Lee used RC cars and an indoor mini course (complete with stoplights, stop signs, a pseudo-GPS signal, and even a neighborhood Costco) to give students a crash course in the vocabulary and tech behind autonomous vehicles. As the semester came to a close, all five student teams were able to program a car to successfully and autonomously navigate within a lane, recognize stop signs and stop lights, and avoid other vehicles on the course. Lee says the automotive industry is looking to hire more electrical and computer engineers than ever before as self-driving car technology becomes a reality. https://news.byu.edu/intellect/byu-offers-crash-course-in-self-driving-car-technology
