Messerschmitt M 33

Willy Messerschmitt had already made a few light aircraft such as the M 17 and M 23, which proved popular with the growing sport flying market, when in 1932 he presented the M 33, a "Volksflugzeug", at the Luftsportausstellung show in Berlin, where it was shown on the BFW stand. The idea was that it would be cheap and simple and would allow everyone to fly, much as the Volkswagen promised the idea that all families should have a cheap and workable car.
As you can see, the water cooled engine sat in the nose, with radiator at the front, driving a high propeller via a shaft and gearbox. Alas, the global economic crisis kicked in at the time and the aircraft never took off commercially...
Willy Messerschmitt había ya fabricado algunas aeronaves ligeras como el M 17 y M 23, que resultaron populares en el creciente mercado del vuelo deportivo, cuando en 1932 presentó el M 33 ,un "Volksflugzeug" (avión del pueblo), en el show de Luftsportausstellung (Aire Deportes Expo) de Berlín, donde fue demostrado en el estand del BFW. La idea era que sería barato y sencillo y permitiría a todos a volar, al igual que el Volkswagen prometía a todas las familias acceder a un coche barato y funcional.
Como se puede ver, el motor refrigerado por agua estaba localizado en la nariz, con el radiador al frente, e impulsaba una hélice localizada en la parte superior que era accionada por una cadena a través de un eje y la caja de cambios. Por desgracia, la crisis económica mundial comenzó en ése tiempo y el avión nunca 'despegó comercialmente...
