From “Yeh haat humko de de thakur…” to “Tumhara naam kya hai Basanti?” — Sholay is a film remembered for its iconic dialogues. We can still close our eyes and say out loud that each dialogue was iconic in its own manner. But apart from that, what made Sholay — a film inspired from Sergio Leone’s style and Akira Kurosawa’s plot — a landmark film in Hindi cinema. Does it still have its relevance in terms of storytelling, standing in 2026?

This video discusses a lot about that. It also discusses my own personal experience of watching Sholay on big screen, and its comparative analysis with the small screen. It also talks about the films it got influenced by, its contemporary works, and also similar films in Bengali language. This video even discusses some letdowns of the films and the common criticism that the film raises, along with its validity. But it concludes to one single thought— is Sholay relevant or just a figment of past?
