Our timber frame cabin part XX: INSULATED CABIN DOOR
To make our insulated cabin door we first chose some 2" thick yellow pine left over from milling our house timbers. This was joined into a frame such as for a panel door with bridle joints in the corners and double tenons for the middle rail. Instead of filling this frame with panels we chose to stuff it with roxul 1.5" mineral wool board insulation then clad it in some T&G pine we had left over from our ceiling.
The very heavy door was hung with three large reclaimed barn hinges and a deadbolt and suffolk latch added.
Thanks to Jay C Whitecloud for his insight and ideas earned over many years building similar super insulated homes and doors.
