Why Procreate For Architects?: 10 Immediate Reasons for Architects & Designers to Use Procreate
Why Procreate For Architects? | Episode 1 of 5: “10 Immediate Reasons for Architects & Designers to Use Procreate” • To see next episode click here: https://youtu.be/zoU2UO2agXs
10 ways Procreate digital sketching can help architects, interior designers and students make the transition from traditional to digital sketching and take their design, sketching and rendering work flow to the next level. As an architect and full-time professional renderer, I have been using the Procreate digital app for about five years now, and I know from your comments that many of you architects and interior designers have the same two questions on your mind:
1) Should I buy an iPad, and 2) Which app is the best for architects and designers?
I can't speak for all the drawing apps but in this video I show you the top 10 reasons why I gave up pencils and paper and started using only Procreate to do my architectural design and architectural rendering. So lets get right into it:

0:00 Introduction
0:48 Reason #1 - Your iPad is your sketchbook for the digital age
As an old school architect, I have used paper sketchbooks for years, but now my iPad Pro has become my sketchbook for the 21st century, replacing all the tools I used to use with digital equivalents just a fingertip away.
1:10 Reason #2 - Layers act like tracing paper
Design is all about iteration, and you will use Procreate layers the same way you use tracing paper now--as a way to build up your ideas one step at a time. Once you have the beginning of an idea you want to grow, just create a new layer of white, turn down the opacity, add a new drawing layer on top of that, and begin sketching again...
1:48 Reason #3 - The select and move tool
Unlike an analog sketchbook where the marks you make remain on a single page, the select and move tool can help you organize and arrange the spontaneous marks you make into a more meaningful whole. You can Isolate a small doodle and blow it up relative to the others, or move doodles around on the page as you build a larger composition...
2:30 Reason #4 - Quick lines and quick shapes
Sketching freehand is great, but there are times when you want to tighten things up without necessarily activating the drawing assist guides. The Quick line feature allows you to hold the pencil down at the end of any freehand line, and snap that line into a straight line, while also allowing you to rotate that line in space...
3:05 Reason #5 - Perspective and 2-D grid drawing assist
When you’re ready to see how your freehand sketch translates into accurate perspective, select drawing assist in perspective mode...find the vanishing points already implied in your sketch...activate drawing assist in a new layer...and you are ready to continue designing while magically obeying the laws of perspective.
3:54 Reason #6 - Coloring with the select and fill method
Adding color to renderings can be challenging, but procreate can help by allowing you to use a "select-and-fill" technique to add color to an area defined by the selection tool...
5:40 Reason #7 - Artistic brushes
Procreate's standard artistic brush set can definitely help you take your sketching and rendering up a notch...
6:14 Reason #8 - Hue, Saturation and Brightness
Like Photoshop, Procreate lets you alter any color in your rendering at any time by tapping on Adjustments, then Hue, Saturation and brightness...
6:45 Reason #9 - Blending Modes
The significance of blending modes for your architectural rendering is two-fold...
7:17 Reason #10 - How Procreate pulls everything together in one place
...and puts them all at your fingertips on an iPad smaller than a loaf of bread, and if that doesn't convince you I don't know what will.
