The Sky's Not the Limit - The Story of America's Aerospace Industry

A 25-minute colour sound c.1963 film presented by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation.

After some footage describing some of the company's early designs beginning with the Lockheed Model G seaplane and famous pilots who flew Lockheed aircraft - including Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post, Charles Kingsford Smith, Roscoe Tanner and Charles Lindbergh - the film shows inflight footage of the Lockheed 18 Lodestar F-ARTM, P-38 Lightning, Hudson bomber, C-69 troop carrier and the post-WW2 success of the F-80 Shooting Star PN-478, P-2 Neptune, F-94 Starfire, TWA Constellation, Electra Jet and the diversification of the Lockheed company into aircraft modifications (including modernising the Boeing B-29 Superfortress). The multirole C-130 Hercules is then featured, followed by the Jet Star.

The company's developments in unmanned aircraft including the X-7 hypersonic ramjet missile testbed and X-17 re-entry research rocket and the evolution of the A1 / A2/ A3 Polaris programme are then described followed by the Electra Prop Jet, P-3 Orion, F-104 Starfighter, MATS C-141 Starlifter, XFV-1 VTOL aircraft, XH-51 Aerogyro helicopter, X-4A Hummingbird and A-11.

The company's involvement in the emerging space programme is then described including the Agena second-stage booster rocket and the launch escape system for Project Apollo. It diversification into the shipbuilding industry is then described including its contemporary development of the world's largest hydrofoil research ship (which became USS Plainview) and air-surface marine vehicles.

The film concludes with Lockheed's involvement in the development of radar and aircraft systems, its research departments, its proposed supersonic airliner, air cargo development system among other areas of aerospace research and design that Lockheed was involved in in the 1960s.
