That is not what we were expecting either! 😆

This is Upheaval Dome, and scientists STILL don’t know what caused it! 🔮 There are 2 hypotheses out there -

1️⃣ Salt Dome: Underground salt layers flowed upwards from the earth, deforming the overlying rock. Erosion has potentially removed the entire salt bubble, leaving only the deeply eroded stem 🏔️

2️⃣ Impact Crater: A meteorite struck the area about 60 million years ago, creating a crater that later uplifted as the ground reached equilibrium. Erosion has since removed any meteorite debris, exposing the crater's interior ☄️
