The Framji Nusserwanji Patel Agiary, situated on Gunpowder Road in Mazgaon, Mumbai, was consecrated in 1845.

Built by the affluent Parsi philanthropist Seth Framji Nusserwanji Patel to serve the Zoroastrian community residing in the historically diverse Mazgaon neighborhood, it remains a well-maintained and peaceful heritage site.

Key Historical Highlights

Founding: The sacred fire (Atash Padshah) was officially consecrated in the year 1845.

Location Context: The agiary's location on Gunpowder Road is tied to Mazagon's industrial and colonial history.

In the 18th century, the British relocated the armoury and gunpowder factory from Bombay Castle to Mazgaon, lending its name to the iconic Gunpowder Lane and Road.

Architectural Layout: The fire temple features a traditional introverted cortile layout with a central well and is surrounded by old coconut trees.

The adjoining, ornately designed Anklesariya Hall features pitched roofs and decorative arches.

Community Stewardship: Supported by private trusts, the agiary is widely respected for its immaculate upkeep.

It regularly celebrates its consecration anniversaries (Salgreh) with traditional Jashan ceremonies.
