Buy Black San Diego in partnership with the San Diego Center for Children will launch its newest program aimed at raising the self esteem and self worth of children in foster care and homeless populations.
The My Brown is Beautiful program is aimed at reaffirming the beauty of children in the foster care system through self care and self-love. This donation based program seeks to provide children with the appropriate hair care and hygiene products along with instructional videos and self esteem building components. “We want to provide the children with the tools that they need to be empowered to care for themselves and to help foster parents teach their children to love themselves as they are” says Prince Habib of Buy Black San Diego
In addition to the self care kits we are fundraising to create a hair care fund to pay for FREE hair styling for the youth recipients. Working alongside local hair stylists in the community to provide further economic sustainability to those affected by COVID-19. Strategic community partnerships with successful businesses such as Berlens Beauty Supply, Melanin Made and AGEV co are allowing their storefronts as actual drop-off locations.
There is a free business distribution component to the program that helps provide stability for black owned product based businesses that connects businesses them directly to retailers.
We would like to give you the opportunity to come alongside us in this project. With your support we can collect hair and hygiene products to present to children in the residential program, as well as provide activities and video tutorials for foster parents that do not have the experience in caring for unique hair textures. Collection of the items listed below will be donated to San Diego Center for Children monthly. Items such as shampoo, condition, brushes and natural hygiene products in brand new condition are accepted. Full list of items are available online
Buy Black San Diego is a local grassroots organization dedication to increasing the awareness of black owned businesses, events and resources to increase the need to our most underserved population.
