Flute, community, and Sydney hardcore: Meet SPEED
Having 60 people in the crowd used to be a good turnout for a SPEED show. Now, the five-person hardcore band from Sydney is fast becoming one of Australia's biggest bands — recently touring the US with Grammy-winning band Turnstile. Last year, they became the first Australian hardcore act to perform at Coachella.
The band's heavy breakdowns and flute solos have been part of hardcore hitting the mainstream in Australia – and for a DIY culture built by a dedicated community, finding a way to stay authentic is what SPEED's Jem Siow and Josh Clayton tell SBS News is one of the biggest challenges for the band.
