Why Google Failed At Going Off The Grid

Google is one of the largest companies in the world boasting a market cap of over $1 trillion. Considering all of their massive online services, this is not too surprising. What is surprising, however, is that Google tried to off the grid with a project called the Google Island. The idea suggested that Google would pull back from public relations, regulation, and shareholders in order to focus on inventing and innovating. Larry Page thought that this would be the most effective way to keep Google more forward and avoid stagnation. However, this idea would never come to fruition. This video explains the premise of the Google Island project, how Larry Page tried to move it forward, and its long term repercussions.
