Hi, I’m Jon from CNCROi.com, and today we’re working with laser engraved black walnut for a custom project. The customer had already provided the black walnut block, but we have all the equipment in-house to create it from scratch if needed. The design on the front of the block was created with our laser engraving machine, while the back features handles that provide ease of use.

What makes this project special is that the customer will be completing the finishing touches themselves. Although we’ve already applied an adult finish to the piece, they plan to do resin filling in the cavities. The resin fill will be applied to the engraved sections, and then the entire surface will be sanded flush. The customer hasn't decided on the color for the resin fill yet, but it promises to add a unique touch to the piece. Resin filling is a fantastic way to add vibrant color to wood permanently. Unlike paint, which merely coats the surface, resin fills into the wood's cavities, creating a durable and colorful finish.

For this particular project, the cavity depth in the black walnut is around an eighth of an inch, which is perfect for resin work. This allows for the resin to be applied effectively without compromising the integrity of the wood. Once the customer completes their resin filling and sanding, they’ll have a beautiful custom piece that’s truly their own.
