This video contains mainly footage taken only yesterday in December 2020 except for Clifford's Tower as it is currently under scaffolding, and Victoria Bar as we were unable to alight the wall owing to locked gates! Still, this video is a replacement for Places to Visit in North Yorkshire City Walls episode and forms the second episode of York in Focus.

We take to the historic and dramatic medieval walls that began its journey when the Romans constructed a fortress. When the Vikings arrived, they destroyed many of the Roman towers and repaired the walls. However, in medieval times the York City walls were rebuilt in stone and forged the path that we take in this video.

We also take a brief look at St Mary's Abbey walls in York as well as learn more about the Victorian York Painter William Etty who successfully lead a campaign against the Corporation of York who wanted to demolish the city walls as they hindered the flow of traffic in the city including stagecoaches and the railways.
