PhD Explains | Mental Health and Sleep Quality (Mental Health and Sleeping All the Time or Not)

“Building positive mental health is a daily journey.”

How did you sleep last night? Did you wake up feeling energized, or exhausted, wishing you could just stay in bed for a few minutes, or even hours? The length, quality, and consistency of your sleep cycles can directly impact your mental health.

Working too much or too hard, staying awake worried about the future, or spending too many late-night hours on your Smartphone can contribute to sleep interruption and lead to a slow drain on your mental health. In an extreme example, Japan even has a word for people who die from overwork and lack of quality sleep called Karoshi (過労死), or literally, death by work.

After overcoming challenges from a near death experience (https://youtu.be/XHuYKUfXqjQ), a school shooting in 2016 at UCLA (https://youtu.be/Buig4l4gy9M), and struggles with panic attacks (https://youtu.be/TE4vDPpNAiI), I learned many life lessons that I want to share with others. That is why I started this channel. Through community support, lifestyle changes, and traveling, I found the drive and strength to complete my masters from The University of Pennsylvania, PhD from UCLA, and time as a Visiting Scientist and Post Doc Researcher at Harvard University.
