With first nuclear powered ballistic missile carrying submarine INS Arihant successfully completing its first deterrence patrol in November 2018 India achieved the goal to have the nuclear triad with a minimum credible deterrent . According to media reports work is underway on a new series of 13,500 tonne nuclear power ballistic missile submarine called the S-5.
