Specialist vs. Generalist: Which are You and Which is Better?

There is an active debate raging around the creative professional and entrepreneurial communities about whether it is better to be a specialist or a generalist. In general, specialists are more desirable in larger corporate environments and generalists are better utilized in smaller, entrepreneurial company settings. But your earning potential really comes down to 3 things: Your level of expertise in a specialized skill, the demand for that skill in the market and finally, how easy it would be to replace you. Your goal should be: become an “expert generalist”.
