Hi, my name is Elliot… and I stole something precious to give to someone I had to pay to be with.

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve struggled with anxiety about being around women. I mean, I even remember falling in love with a pretty girl in kindergarten and hiding behind the slide because I was too scared to talk to her.

I watched as the guys in my friend group started getting their first kisses. By the end of middle school, most of them had already kissed a girl, and I had barely talked to one!

In high school, it didn’t get any better. There was a girl named Willow that I had had a crush on for years. I’d always liked her from afar, too scared to ever get close to her. But in chemistry class, she was my partner – and unfortunately, we had anything but chemistry.

My head was spinning so much I couldn’t even look at her. She talked to me nicely, but I could barely hear her over the sound of my pounding heart. My hands were sweating, and it was right then that she must’ve realized something was wrong. She put her hand on mine and offered to get me a glass of water because I “didn’t look so good.”

As soon as she said that, my mind started racing. She knew I was nervous! She knew I was a freak, and soon, everyone else would, too! I jumped out of my seat.

I turned to leave the room, but...
