NEW CERB UPDATES -- WHAT'S NEXT??? -- August 2, 2020

🚨 🇨🇦 Justin Trudeau announced a few updates that will be taking place just before the last CERB period begins on August 30. 🚨 🇨🇦

Trudeau and his government said that a new and improved Employment Insurance (EI) program will be available near the end of the month so that CERB applicants can go through that portal instead.

This means all CERB applications and recipients will be moving to the new EI system. They said that these changes have been in progress since the pandemic began and it makes everyone’s life easier using this system.

Employment Minister, Carla Qualtrough, said that the new EI system will encourage people to actively look for jobs by providing more help for citizens in terms of training, networking opportunities, job banks, employment agencies and so much more.

The government wants to make sure that every Canadian who is looking for work will be supported. GIG or CONTRACT WORKERS are not eligible for EI; however, there is going to be a similar benefit to EI that will support these workers.

A “Sickness and Caregivers Benefit” is also in the works as this will help people who are not covered at work if they or their loves ones get the illness and have to stay home. More details will be released near the end of the month.
