"I have been inspired to illustrate Hindi idioms for December art dare and one of the things that stuck with me was the insistence of Prof. Lieu and Art Prof Teaching artist Alex Rowe on brainstorming and thumbnailing for this art prof dare.

So, I sat in the coffee shop with my notepad and thumbnailed many ideas for this idiom - kiye karaaye par paani ferna, which translates as 'to throw water on a carefully completed work', indicating quick and careless destruction of cautiously completed work. After brainstorming for a bit, I realized that it would be most dramatic to actually spill water on a water sensitive painting.

So, I painted an eye using a reference from Art Prof's Flickr account, using water color pencils, while listening to the Art Prof torso paint along part#1 video. As I was painting, I realized that the pandemic has thrown water over my plans for 2020 - as is the case with most of us.

So, when it came to spraying water for demonstrating the idiom, I used 70% ethanol instead. It is a sanitizer that is commonly used to disinfect the virus that causes COVID19. I believe I got the permission to play with the materials watching Art Prof tear the tissue paper in graphite portrait tutorial and I am grateful for this lesson."

Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China.
