Selling your own online courses is a popular online business idea that you can start with a very small investment and no technical knowledge. Whether you’re looking to create an online course to sell or simply add an online course for your existing students, this video is for you!

What do you need to create an online course:
A domain name.
A hosting account.
A passion to teach.
Planning your course
The outline of the course is perhaps the single most important step in planning your course.
If you don’t know how you want to structure the material for your course (sections and lessons, subtopics etc.), it will be difficult to get the course set up properly to meet your needs, and you may choose the wrong solution.
Type of content
A text-only course can be treated very differently to a multimedia course. You need to think through the types of content you want your course to include (e.g. text, video, or quizzes).
Course restrictions
A free course may be considerably easier to set up than one requiring complicated membership rules. You need to determine how you want your course to be set up, and which content will be available to which audiences.
Method of distribution
Having all your course content available when a student signs up may be more convenient, but you may prefer to make materials available on a schedule (i.e. ‘dripped content’).
Ask campaign
Essentially this is a one-question survey you ask your followers. Via email or social media, “what is your #1 question about (insert topic here)”. Your followers will give you the topic ideas they most want.
Setting up
Depending on where and how you want your students to access the class, the next step is to subscribe to a service or install a Learning Management System (LMS) add-on. This will allow you to create your online course and add it to your website. LMS’s are an all-in-one solution with complete course management, lesson plans, quizzes, assignments, course progression, and more.
Promoting your online course
Before your class goes live, share an image or video as a teaser to build excitement and anticipation. Create a mini-course for free as a lead generator focusing on quick wins you can provide to your customers such as getting their first client or growing their social media followers, etc. This will help build trust and allows you to email them later when your course is live.
Class launch marketing
Announce that your class is live across all of your social media channels, as well as invite your friends and family to watch your class. Make sure all of your followers know about your class by posting a follow-up 1-2 weeks after the class is live.
With so much content out there on the web, and with all the variables that are based on what you are actually teaching and who you are marketing to, other things will crop up. However, if you decide to give it a try, there is nothing more rewarding than teaching adults new skills and encouraging lifelong learning.
The Journey is what everyday entrepreneurs, like you, need to follow in the pursuit of online success. Our experienced GoDaddy Guides are here to take you through all the steps, both big and small, that you encounter every day.
