This time, we were invited to be a part of the opening Gala dinner 🍽️🥂 of Nationals 2023 in Greyhound racing 🦮, held at the Meadows stadium on August 26th.

☝🏼The Australian Greyhound Racing Association was formed in the 1960s. Greyhound Clubs Australia hosts an annual national championship for sprint and distance races of 500m and 700m. 💪🏼 Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association is proud to have been chosen as the club to host The Nationals this year.
💰🏆 The main prize for the race is $85,000.

The breed of dogs participating in the races is the English Greyhound or, as we call them, "horts" – truly legendary dogs 🦮. Initially, these dogs were used for hunting hares, foxes, and deer. Nowadays, dog racing is very popular for this breed.
The main advantage of these dogs is their tremendous speed that they can reach 🦮🏃🏼‍♂️. The speed record, set on March 5, 1994, in Australia, belongs to a dog nicknamed Star Title, and it was 67.3 km/h. But even an average Greyhound can run at speeds of around 60 km/h.
The history of the breed dates back to ancient times, with their depictions found on tomb walls, and even Cleopatra had a special fondness for these dogs. 🙃

🔎 Greyhounds are large dogs with a very graceful stature. They have very aerodynamic contours - narrow heads, small ears, which are tightly pressed during running, a special eye placement that provides excellent vision during the run - an ideal tool for a hunter. They have a large, deep chest, long, slim, and muscular limbs, with minimal fat. The color patterns are diverse.
Greyhound dogs are known for their excellent, gentle temperament. They are loving and affectionate companions, and they share some similarities with cats. They are highly intelligent, easily trainable, and have a deep understanding of humans 🤩☺️.
