Dardanella - Selvin's Novelty Orchestra - Victor 18633 (B-23344-3) 11/20/1919
Ben Selvin is thought to be the most recorded person in the history of the phonograph. An informal count suggests that "The Dean of Recorded Music" made over 20,000 recordings between 1919 and the 1940's. Dardanella was his fourth recording and it sold many, many records. Selvin used many alias names to make records during the 1920's for other record companies on an independent basis to skirt his exclusive contract with Columbia Records during the later part of the 1920's and early 1930's. I have tripped over many a record with an interesting orchestra playing only to learn that was Selvin's Orchestra.
