Membrane Filtration Technique for Water Analysis (E. coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas, Coliform etc.)

The Membrane Filtration Technique was introduced in the late 1950s as an alternative to the Most Probable Number (MPN) procedure for microbiological analysis of water samples. It involves the use of membrane filters, which are thin porous sheet structures composed of cellulose esters or similar polymeric materials. This techniques or method is applicable when the number of bacteria in a water sample is very low.
This video represents a detailed procedure for the enumeration of E. coli, coliform and other microorganisms using the membrane filtration technique.
