Unfortunately both Tawny Owl eggs failed to hatch. Despite starting to crack, the first egg failed to hatch on Saturday 27/02 and Luna abandoned incubation of the second egg on Sunday 28/02. Sadly Luna will not lay anymore eggs this year as tawny owls only have one brood a year.

Welcome to my Barn Owl and Tawny Owl LIVESTREAM, my cameras are very busy with wildlife and run 24/7. The barn owls on the stream are Gylfie (female) & Finn (male) our resident pair, Howard (male), Ghost (male), and Bronte (female). The tawny owls are Bomber (male) and Luna (female).

Bomber has been in the area since ~2013 and Luna ~2020. They had 4 chicks last year, but not on camera, so this is the first year we will be able to capture their breeding story on the cameras and share it with you all.

Barn owls Gylfie and Finn are courting, and seem to be periodically switching between Elm and Ash watch out for their awkward mating attempts: https://youtu.be/UUUdFluA-gY_, I hope they will rear a brood(s) together this year.

The tawny owls, Bomber and Luna have been courting in Beech stump, and Luna has laid her first egg of the year, on January 25th and a second on the 28th which is incredibly exciting, and we are eagerly watching as the story unfolds. Tawny owls usually lay 2-3 eggs, each egg laid at 48-hour intervals, and incubated for ~30days, hatching in turn. Sadly, both eggs failed to hatch this year, so I have all fingers crossed for their brood next year.

Luna has a scar on her right foot, and has a paler appearance, especially in her face. Bomber has darker brown colouration in his face, and his facial features appear bigger.

A pair of kestrels are often seen on the feeding post, and have frequently been spotted at Sycamore stump giving Ghost (barn owl) grief.

Ghost (barn owl) likes to spend time in the Sycamore nest. He is usually there alone but at the end of last year, an unknown dark female joined him for a few days, we are excited to see if she returns.

Bandita, my resident stoat is almost completely white in her ermine coat, so keep an eye out for her! If you see any brown stoats, it could be Ed, Olga or Bill who are all Bandita’s kits from 2020.

Backstory: Last year, Gylfie and Barney (her previous partner) raised a single chick in their first brood - Solo. Solo stayed in the nest until Gylfie had her second brood of three eggs.

Solo unfortunately ended up stealing a chick: https://youtu.be/8HmTmcWW54o, Solo returned once but was promptly chased away: https://youtu.be/-RmWMOgy9-Y.

The two remaining chicks, Hans (female) and Grete (male) developed well. It was such a privilege to witness the journey of these beautiful birds as they grew from adorable balls of fluff to young adults. At two months old, Jean Thorpe, who is licensed, ringed the chicks on their right legs: https://youtu.be/43xAGch_dJA. We soon caught the moment Hans experienced her first glimpse of the outside world: https://youtu.be/co10DCm9nFI.

On 6/10/20, Hans was pulled out of the nest by tawny owl Bomber: https://youtu.be/HcTrJmPNx58. On 11/10/20 Hans and Grete semi fledged, leaving the nest but then returning.

On 19/10/20 I received a rescue barn owl named Howard: https://youtu.be/lhB8Om-C3pA. I introduced him into the elm nest with Hans and Grete the next day: https://youtu.be/zNQ9eDve_BY, this re-introduction didn’t go to plan, so Howard was relocated to the barn owl tower the next day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNQ9eDve_BY. Howard, who has a ring on his left leg, is now doing extremely well and can often be seen on the stream. Drax (female) was also rescued, but did not survive.

Sadly, we have not seen Barney since the 23/10/2020, I do not know what happened, but I don’t think he will return. In his memory we made a film of his time here: https://youtu.be/QD78101KsJA.

About Me: I am a British wildlife artist based in Thixendale, North Yorkshire, UK. I build ideal habitats to encourage wildlife into my garden and use nest cams to study their behaviour. These studies inform my paintings. I share the best of my video research on this channel for free.

If you would like to support my work please consider a small donation here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s... Or of course you may like to purchase my artwork which you will find on my website: https://www.robertefuller.com. Many of the paintings are portraits of the creatures you watch here!
