London Monopoly Locations: Regent Street to Mayfair [Part 4]

In this Monopoly tour of London, I visit each of the places on the original UK Monopoly board and share the history behind each of the properties. Here's where I went in Part 4:

1. Regent Street - Named after George the 4th who became prince regent, 1811-1820, after his father King George the 3rd became insane.

2. Oxford Street - This old Roman road connected Colchester to Hampshire. Prisoners used to walk down this street to Tyburn Tree, near Marble Arch, to be hanged in a public execution.
It used to be called Tyburn Road but it was renamed in the 18th century. Oxford Street has been a retail hub since the 20th century and its were department stores in the UK started

3. Bond Street - Bond Street was built in the 17th century by Sir Thomas Bond. It has been a very affluent area since the 18th century and is to this day one of the most sort after areas in Europe. There are two parts, Old Bond Street and New Bond Street.

4. Liverpool Street Station - On the site stood the insane asylum called Old Bethlem.
In 1821, the road was widened and named after the Prime Minister Lord Liverpool.

5. Park Lane - Park Lane used to be called Tyburn Lane and had a big wall separating the houses from Hyde Park.

6. Mayfair - Mayfair is not a road but a neighbourhood. Everything between Oxford Street (North), Regents Street (East), Piccadilly Street (South) and Park Lane (West). The name comes from a fair they held during the month of May in the 1730s to celebrate the start of spring. This is the final and most expensive stop on the Monopoly board.
