3000 Feet Underground in the Abandoned Darrington Bornite Mine

High hopes of striking bornite incentivized miners in the early 20th century to bore three thousand two hundred feet of one long stretch of tunnel into this mountain. Walking to the end of this mine and back you have walked well over a mile underground. But as is common of subsurface mines dating to the early 20th century, the high hopes were in vain (no pun intended). Bornite was never found and investors ended up losing everything here.
