Lets Build Twitter From the Ground Up: Episode 291 || Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL and React

Building large scale application is more difficult than many people understand or expect. Join me in this long running series where I set out to duplicate one of the most popular social media platforms ever creating using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, PostgreSQL data, React JS web application framework and more.

In this episode, we expand the Communities explore experience by introducing an async initializeCommunitiesExplore thunk to fetch discovery posts from the backend and wiring it into the Redux slice with proper loading, reset, and error handling. We then enhance the Post component to support community context, displaying a clickable community badge above posts that navigates directly to the associated community. From there, we build the foundational CommunitiesExplore component, connecting it to Redux state, handling lifecycle initialization and cleanup, and rendering discovery posts with community metadata. Finally, we begin constructing a horizontally scrollable CommunitiesCategoriesList with active state handling and navigation controls, laying the groundwork for category-based filtering within the explore feed.
