The China National Space Administration (CNSA) on Friday released new photos of the Martian surface captured by the country's first Mars rover Zhurong.

Zhurong has been working on the red planet for 54 Martian days and has traveled more than 300 meters as of Thursday. A Martian day is approximately 40 minutes longer than a day on Earth.

While traveling on Martian surface, Zhurong has taken photos of rocks, sand dunes and stones on Mars with the help of the self-equipped cameras.

China launched the Mars probe Tianwen-1, meaning Questions to Heaven, which is taken from a poem written by the ancient Chinese poet Qu Yuan (about 340-278 BC). The Mars probe blasted off from south China's Hainan Province on July 23 last year, kicking off the country's independent planetary exploration mission. The name of the Mars rover Zhurong comes from the god of fire in ancient Chinese mythology, which echoes with the Chinese name of the red planet: Huoxing (the planet of fire).

The probe, which has flown in space for more than half a year and is currently around 170 million kilometers from earth, has a total flight distance of more than 450 million kilometers.

The lander of the probe carrying the rover touched down in the southern part of Utopia Planitia, a vast plain in the northern hemisphere of Mars, on May 15 this year.

Zhurong drove down from its landing platform to the Martian surface on May 22, starting its exploration of the red planet, and making China the second country after the United States to land and operate a rover on Mars.

該探測器已在太空飛行半年多，目前距離地球約1.7億公里，總飛行距離超過4.5億公里。

今年5月15日，載有火星車的探測器著陸器降落在火星北半球廣闊的烏托邦平原南部。

5月22日，祝融從著陸平台駛下火星表面，開始對這顆紅色星球的探索，使中國成為繼美國之後第二個在火星上登陸並運行漫遊車的國家。
