Three settings you need to be checking to maximize your laptop’s WiFi
In order to ensure you laptop is getting maximum WiFi speed, you need to be looking at the settings of your laptop’s WiFi adapter. The WiFi adapter on your laptop is what allows your laptop to connect to WiFi, and it has preferences that help it determine which WiFi networks to connect to.

The WiFi adapter settings you should check are as follows:

•Preferred WiFi band: this setting establishes what frequency WiFi band your laptop should be prioritizing. On my laptop, the default setting was “no preference”. Most people will want to change this to 5 GHz (or 6 GHz if they have a laptop that is WiFi 6 capable). These higher frequency WiFi bands offer faster speeds than the 2.4 GHz band, and setting them as the preference for your WiFi adapter will ensure your laptop is connecting to faster WiFi networks when it can

•Wireless mode: this setting defines what WiFi standard your wireless adapter is able to connect to. In these cases, you’ll want the setting to be the most recent WiFi standard that your adapter is able to connect to. This will most likely be “ac” for WiFi 5 enabled laptops, “ax” for WiFi 6 enabled laptops, or “be” for WiFi 7 enabled laptops

•Roaming aggressiveness: the roaming aggressiveness setting is useful if your laptop is frequently connected to WiFi networks with multiple access points. If you have multiple WiFi access points in your home (e.g. a mesh WiFi), increasing the roaming aggressiveness setting of your laptop’s WiFi adapter will ensure it’s connecting to the access point that’s providing a stronger WiFi signal (and therefore faster WiFi speeds)

Conclusion
