Transforming Our Understanding of Fairy Tales | Anne Duggan | TEDxWayneStateU

Anne Duggan, a professor of Fairy-Tale studies, takes us into her world of fairy tales. She uses the evolution of one particular story- Little Red Riding Hood- to give us greater insights into how we view the world around us. By the end, your understanding of fairy tales shall truly be transformed. Dr. Anne E. Duggan is professor of French and chair of the Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Wayne State University. Working between the French early modern tale tradition and twentieth- and twenty-first century French fairy-tale film, she is author of Salonnières, Furies, and Fairies: The Politics of Gender and Cultural Change in Absolutist France (2005), and Queer Enchantments: Gender, Sexuality, and Class in the Fairy-Tale Cinema of Jacques Demy (2013). With Cristina Bacchilega, Professor Duggan is co-editor of Marvels & Tales: Journal of Fairy-Tale Studies, and she co-edited with Donald Haase Folktales and Fairy Tales: Traditions and Texts from around the World (4 vols., 2016). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
