Poland Sand Railways-Russian Alcos
The sand railways in the Silesia region of Poland are a haven for the Russian built Alco design TEM2 locomotives that were once common on PKP as class SM48. While some sand is shipped offline as construction material, the railways are networks connecting coal mines with sand pits. The sand is used as backfill material for depleted parts of the mines. Originally electrified, most were dieselized with TEM2 types. Operators shown include DB Schenker, CTL Logistics and the Kotlarnia system that rosters over a dozen TEM2's. Video taken in June 2015.
