Africa's most under-rated city? Exploring Dar es Salaam - Tanzania's epic metropolis! | 🇹🇿

After a greulling three days aboard the TAZARA Railway, I explored the beautiful Indian Ocean seaside city of Dar es Salaam. Dar is the largest city in Tanzania with 4.3 million inhabitants, and is one of East Africa's greatest metropolis'. This multicultural city is a fusion of German, Swahili, British, Arabic, and Indian culture, reflecting its rich colonial past as well as its historical legacy as an Indian Ocean trading port. One of the most ethnically diverse places in Africa, this city was a complete surprise. I came in expecting nothing, and I left it with fond memories of what has become one of my favourite cities on the continent.

In this episode, I amble my way around the city center, visiting the stunning waterfront before making my way through some of the city's minor markets. This was a great introduction to a city that is admittedly under-rated and overlooked by travelers who quickly pass through on their way to the golden shores of nearby Zanzibar. Don't believe the haters: Dar es Salaam is a complete hidden treasure in the heart of East Africa.
