Landscape Photography | Ghosts Of The Past | Bolehill | Peak District

Landscape photography holds many pleasures for me at different levels. As well as being excellent meditation from the rigours of everyday life, it also gives me the opportunity to explore new locations and their history. Bolehill in the Peak District is an old disused quarry which provided the stone for the building of the Howden and Derwent dams. In the early 1900s it was a hive of activity with hundreds of workers. Tragedy struck on many occasions, industrial accidents the norm back then. The quarry is now transformed with hundreds, if not thousands of birch trees and each one is an epitaph to the workers who are now long gone, standing like ghosts from the past. Opportunity to used the Nikon whilst walking the dogs , taking photographs of trees, quarry pools and even abandoned millstones. The place is steeped in history.

I also discuss the meaning and story behind one of my images. A bit deep for me but as I said landscape photography is more than just taking a photograph.
