Powering On the 2GIG GC2e
In this video, Michael from Alarm Grid shows you how to power on a 2GIG GC2e Security System. The GC2e receives primary power from a plug-in AC transformer, but it also has a backup battery to keep the system running in the event of a power outage 2GIG recommends connecting the backup battery before connecting the transformer to the wall outlet or power strip. Connecting the backup battery will require opening up the panel so that you can properly connect the plug-in connector to the designated port.
When powering on the 2GIG GC2e Security System, there are several things that you will want to keep in mind. For one, the 2GIG GC2e uses DC power. That means that properly polarity must be followed when connecting the wires. The positive (+) wire at the transformer should go to the positive (+) power terminal at the panel. Likewise, the negative (-) wire at the transformer should go to the negative (-) power terminal at the panel. Traditionally, red is used for positive, and black is used for negative. But it really doesn't matter what colors you use, as long as polarity is observed.
You should also be aware that there is a maximum wire run limit for the panel. This wire run limit depends on the thickness, or gauge, of the wire you are using. Thicker wire allows electrical current to travel a further distance. Make sure to be cognizant of the wire run limits when setting up the panel. One very popular option for setting up a 2GIG GC2e System is to use a Honeywell LT-Cable. This is a pre-prepared cable that will eliminate the need for any wire-stripping or cutting. Just remember that the LT-Cable is 8-feet long with a 7-inch dongle, so if you need a longer wire, then you will need to prepare your own. We recommend using 18-gauge or 22-gauge wire.
