Eating the Special Round Taiyaki Served at a Café in Kyoto

Today, we will be taking you to “Amairo Coffee & Taiyaki,” a café famous for its cute round taiyaki. The café is hidden at the end of a narrow alleyway between traditional Kyoto buildings. By the way, a taiyaki is a Japanese pancake shaped like a sea-bream, with bean paste filled inside.

A sea-bream is called 鯛 tai in Japanese, which is the same pronunciation as the たい of “めでたい medetai”, which means “congratulations” or “happy.” So 鯛 tai are thought of as food that brings luck, and so are taiyaki we will be eating today. However the taiyaki sold here have become especially famous on Instagram not only for their cute round figure, but also for their delicious taste.
