I am very pleased to finally have an AMC to talk about. I recently picked up this 1975 Matador coupe, and have been enamored of it ever since. The styling is very much unlike anything else before or since, and it fits AMCs parade of strange 60s and 70s cars that look endearing, but in a fairly unapproachable way.

The 2nd generation Matador coupe sold very well initially, but demand quickly faltered (as it did with so many AMC vehicles), and 30K sold in the first year became 2K sold in the last - these would be weak figures for Aston Martin, never mind a company that once boasted Big Three sales figures for some models.

But try they did, and persevere they did - as AMC had for the bulk of its existence. Profits and good times were almost always short lived, and tight budgets and unlikely saves were the order of the day. AMC had probably done the best when George Romney was at the head, though my dad might disagree with this.

In any case, this was a fun car to review, and I fit in as much as I could - not sure when another AMC will be passing our way.
