Travel Vlog-Flying with Pets

Welcome back to our channel!! On this episode we break down what it's like to fly with your pet in checked luggage. We have been through this process in the recent months and wanted to share our experience with the hopes of relieving some of the stress for the pet parents out there!

**Disclaimer: For all pet medication please consult a vet for information. Some deworming, flea and tick medication can cause adverse reactions in some dogs. We suggest you do your research and consult a vet before selecting the right medication for your pet!

Westjet Maximum Crate Size
Weight: 100lbs (45kgs)
Size: 40 inch length x 27 inch width x 30 inch height

Crate must be:
-Hard Sided
-Wheels removed
-Airline Approved
-Secure
-Well Ventilated
-Lined with absorbent material or blanket
-Be marked with "Live Animal" (supplied by westjet)
-Be Marked "This way Up" (provided by westjet)
-Have both a food and water dish
-Have a device for lifting
-Have a 3/4inch protective rim
-Have a solid bottom and roof

Can't be:
-Welded or wire mesh
-Collapsible
-Have a plastic door

Heat embargo:
Westjet never flies pets to Huatulco, Merida or Ixtapa
Westjet flies pets to all other designations from October 31st through May 15th *some restrictions may apply through Christmas and New Years*

Airline requirements (specific to Westjet)
Fees do apply to fly your pet as checked baggage
Reserve well in advance by calling Westjet
-certain breeds are restricted from flying
-Must be older than 8 weeks
-Must not have unruly or aggressive behavior
-Must be in an approved crate

Pre Departure
-Light meal and water
-Walk for exercise and washroom break
-Arrive 150 minutes early for international

For Departure
-Go to Westjet counter
-Complete Live Animal Handling Declaration
-Ensure stickers are on crate
-Ensure pet is comfortable
-Have health records ready

Security Check
-Be prepare to remove pet from crate
-Place zipties on 4 corners of door to secure

Arrival in Mexico
-Pick up pet after customs in baggage claim area
-See agent for pet inspection
-Have health records available for agent
-Provide pet inspection form to baggage check agent
-Have prearranged shuttle
-Have tool to remove zipties
