"CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY WHOM YE SHALL SERVE; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side" Joshua exclaimed to all the people, including elders, leaders, judges, and officials of Israel. "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: `Long ago your forefathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the [Euphrates] River and worshiped other gods.’” Then the people answered, "Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!"

Joshua said. "Now, therefore, fear the Lord, and serve Him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the Euphrates, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15).

And the people answered, "For the Lord is our God. He will we serve, and his voice will we obey."
