STORYLINE:
Christians across Georgia celebrated Orthodox Easter early on Sunday.
Patriarch Ilia II, the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, led a service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the capital Tbilisi.
The church service was accompanied by a procession of the cross.
During the procession, priests walked around the church, carrying crosses and icons.
Ilia II received an approval rating of 92 percent among Georgians, according to a recent survey carried out by the US non-profit organisation the National Democratic Institute.
That was the higher than anyone else on the list, which mainly included politicians, the NDI said.
Georgia is one of the oldest Christian countries in the world.
