The Flying Fortress Miracle

In April 1945, a large section of the Netherlands was still occupied by German forces who were cut off and encircled by Allied forces. The Dutch civilians were suffering for lack of food and it had been one of the harshest winters on record. After trying to annihilate each other for 5 years, an amazing event took place - the Allies and the Germans entered into a truce. They agreed that B17 Flying Fortresses and British Lancaster Bombers would drop food to feed the starving civilian population. The Germans agreed not to shoot at the low flying Allied bombers.
