The Ionian revolt was the beginning of the Greek and Persian Wars, a titanic clash that lasted for two centuries and ended with the conquest of Persia by Alexander the Great.
The burning of Sardis was a major watershed in the Greco-Persian wars and it was the initialization of a long list of atrocities during the clash of those two major civilizations of antiquity.
