Spotlight On: Dwayne The Rock Johnson, and his robust timepieces.

With his towering height and rippling biceps, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson feels right at home with his usual on-screen role – that of saving the world from evil.

From the Fast & Furious franchise to top-grossers like San Andreas, Johnson finds himself in high-octane, action-filled situations.

Of course he wears watches that can match his presence and handle the rigors of his job. From robust Panerai to dressy Breitling, here are the watches that grace The Rock’s wrist:

When it comes to The Rock’s collection, Panerai takes the cake. The oversized watch is an excellent fit for his build and image.

On regular days, Dwayne usually straps on a Panerai with a simpler dial, such as this Panerai Luminor Power Reserve Automatic Acciaio. Despite its complications – such as a calendar and power reserve indicator – it still retained the brand’s iconic minimalist design.

He also has a Luminor Marina on a brown leather strap. Again, minimal in design, but commanding just the same.

One of his more unique Panerais is the Carbotech. Made of a composite based on carbon fiber, it has a unique grain, which means every watch is different.

Of course, The Rock has also worn his Panerai timepieces on screen. In scenes full of high-speed car chases and hazardous stunts, Dwayne’s Panerai Luminor Submersible still stole a few scenes in Fast and Furious 5.

In the disaster-action movie San Andreas, The Rock survives a series of avalanches, earthquakes, and helicopter rides. There could be no watch fitting for this role than the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950, which is made of titanium, and has a 72-hour power reserve.

Of course, he also has Rolex in his collection of timepieces. He chose specialized watches that can take a beating, such as the Seadweller and Yachtmaster.

Built like an absolute rock, the Seadweller is water resistant up to 4,000 feet. It also comes with a steel caseback that is hermetically sealed and can only be opened by a special Rolex tool.

The Yachtmaster meanwhile, was built especially for sailing. Its functional bezel allows the wearer to calculate sailing time, but it also has the good looks of a sport watch.

Also among his classic timepieces, is the IWC Big Pilot. His favorite edition is the vintage-like Heritage model, which truly stands out with a 48 mm case.

There’s also Breitling’s transatlantic watch – the Transocean. With a functional, but relatively refined ’50s feel, it was truly designed for frequent travelers like The Rock.
