India–Iran Trade 4000 Years Ago? Indus Valley & Mesopotamia Link

Between 2600–1900 BCE, three major regions were connected through trade — the Indus Valley Civilization (India), the Iranian Plateau, and Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq).

The Indus Valley Civilization, including cities like Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, was highly advanced and actively engaged in long-distance trade.

Trade happened through two main routes:

Sea route: From India across the Arabian Sea to the Persian Gulf
Land route: From India through Iran to Mesopotamia

In both cases, Iran acted as a crucial bridge connecting regions.

Evidence of this trade comes from Mesopotamian records, where the term “Meluhha” was used, which many scholars believe refers to the Indus Valley Civilization.

Additionally, Indus-style seals have been found in parts of Iran, suggesting active trade links.

This shows that Indian goods reached Iran and beyond thousands of years ago.
