#TBT - Peninsula Trail (Indiana) Backpacking - August 2010 - Re-Edit
This is the first of a series of re-edits I plan to do on some of my oldest videos. I'm hoping to breath some 'new life' into these older videos that due to YouTube limitations and limits on my channel back in 'the day' prevented me from uploading them in their full HD 'glory'.
My basic plan is, first, to re-publish the videos in the full 1080HD they were captured with. Then beyond that, apply some off-board image stabilization, optimize the audio to the extend possible, and generally clean up the editing based on the 10-years of video editing knowledge I've acquired. Fair warning... there isn't much I can do to correct the horrendous basic image capture 'techniques' I used back then! (in my defense, back in that timeframe I did these videos to share with family only - I never, ever, ever, ever.... thought the 'world' would watch this stuff!).
As painful as this video is to watch from a quality perspective, even after everything I could do to 'clean it up', I still thought it would be interesting to bring a fresh perspective to it.
This was my first ever overnight backpacking trip!
I know... I had a chuckle or three too. All of my gear was sparkly brand-new and minty fresh. This video contains the first-ever cheddar cheese spread 'moment'. The coffee in the morning was Starbucks Via (gasp!). The Nemo Meta2P, seen on so many videos after, including my latest February 2020 RRG video, was brand new and being used for the first time.
What you can't see, but what you can certainly 'feel' in some of the shots, is the doubt, uncertainty, anxiety... and frankly fear, that I felt in being alone on my first ever solo trip into the backcountry. I think all of us who venture out into the backcountry have felt the same way on our earliest trips into the woods. My message is it's ok to feel that way, and 'we've all been there'!
This is where it all started. And my hope in re-publishing this ancient video is that for many who are thinking of getting 'back into the woods' that you realize that for everyone you have to start somewhere!
