Appalachian Trail Backpacking - "Triple Crown" (Virginia) - May 2018

For my 2nd trip of 2018 I headed back to the Appalachian Trail to hike the section in Virginia known as the "Triple Crown". The Triple Crown is a 30-mile section of the trail that contains three of the better known landmarks on the entire AT - Dragon's Tooth, McAfee Knob, and Tinker Cliffs. Bob and Travis both joined me on this trip, which made it especially enjoyable.

Staying with the 'wet' theme from my first trip of 2018, the Red River Gorge, there was unfortunately a large low pressure system parked offshore in the Atlantic Ocean which brought us multiple inches of rain during our hike. Worse than the rain though were the low clouds that prevented us from experiencing the spectacular views that the Triple Crown is known for.

But even without the views it was a great hike. We were able to experience the unique, magical feeling that you always get when hiking the Appalachian Trail, and, as always, the AT 'social life' was truly special.

For those who have watched my other videos this one is done in the same style - a little under an hour in length, intended to bring the audience along for the ride, and with a still picture slide show with music at the end. If you just have a few minutes just skip to the end and enjoy the pictures.
