MOUNT RAINIER SNOWSHOE | Alta Vista Snowshoeing Trail

Mount Rainier Snowshoe adventures are some of the best in Washington! It's a great outdoor activity for winters, especially if you are living in Seattle or Washington. We started our Mt. Rainier snowshoe adventure at the Paradise parking lot and trekked up past Alta Vista. There are many people on the trail so you can't really get lost. Just follow their footsteps or make your own! The snowshoe adventure was about 4 km and took us just over 2 hours. At the top, we had amazing bluebird views of Mount Rainier up close as well as Mount Adams and Mount St. Helens in the distance. You could decide to keep going and make it to even higher elevations. We're sure you'd have even better views from there. However, we didn't have enough time as we were coming from Seattle and the days were short (we were snowshoeing Mount Rainier right after New Year's).

There are several other easy snowshoe routes that start from Paradise Lodge and the Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center. It is best to go inside and speak to a park ranger if you are looking for a trail. They are very knowledgeable and have good recommendations on snowshoeing in mount rainier national park. They will also be able to help with safety and if there is any avalanche danger to avoid. We really enjoyed snowshoeing at Mount Rainier and we hope you will too!!
