HIKING MT TALLAC 2021 | Lake Tahoe's Best Hike [Hidden Gem Route]

Mt Tallac is part of Desolation Wilderness and the tallest mountain on Lake Tahoe's immediate shoreline. At 9,738 feet, the mountain stands as a commanding landmark, and it is a continual draw for hikers in the summer and back country skiers in the winter. We completed the Mt Tallac hike at the beginning of June 2021 and in this video we show you the route we took as well as the views we got along the way. We hiked Mt Tallac as a loop to make it more interesting with varying landscapes. While the way up via the Goat Trail (marked as I7E06.1 on Maps.me) was very steep, it was also the shortest route to hike up. On our way down, we followed the Glen Alpine Trail down which was longer but very gradual. We recommend taking this route just because it's more scenic than the traditional, busy way up via the Mt Tallac Trailhead. We saw only one person on the whole trail up, which is very rare these days. That's why this alternative route to Mt Tallac is a true hidden gem route! Enjoy your hike to Mt Tallac.
